Pokémon TCG Pocket is a digital collecting game, and what changes hands between players are the cards themselves — around 3,520 of them spread across 21 sets, from Genetic Apex and Mythical Island through Space-Time Smackdown all the way to Mega Rising and the Promo sets. Every card sits on a rarity ladder, and that tier is what really drives its trade standing: the common 1-Diamond cards are easy to pull and easy to part with, while full-art and special-illustration cards climb through the Star tiers up to the coveted Crown Rare at the very top. A card's desirability comes down to how hard it is to pull, how striking its art is, and how badly collectors want it to finish a set — not to any dollar figure, because nothing here is bought or sold for money.

Trading is built into the app, but it comes with real, verified restrictions worth knowing before you plan a swap. It is friends-only — you can only trade with players on your friend list — and it unlocks 14 days after you first start the game. The most important rule is the same-rarity match: both cards in a trade must share the exact same rarity tier (and matching flair or frame), so a 1-Star only ever trades for another 1-Star. Only certain tiers are tradeable at all — 1 through 4 Diamond, 1-Star, 2-Star, and Shiny (1 and 2) — while 3-Star cards, Crown Rare cards, and every Promo card are locked out of trading entirely, as are Wonder Pick and shop cards. Trades of 3-Diamond and up cost Shinedust (the dust currency that replaced the old Trade Tokens); 1- and 2-Diamond swaps are free, while higher tiers scale up to about 25,000 for a 2-Star and 10,000 to 30,000 for a Shiny, and each trade also spends trade stamina, so you cannot swap forever. You can wishlist up to 20 cards to tell friends what you are chasing.

Because trades happen inside the app with a friend and both cards move at the same moment, the in-game swap itself is safe — the real danger lives outside it. Treat anyone offering to sell you a card for real money, act as a "middleman," or complete a deal "in parts" off-platform as a scam: Pokémon TCG Pocket has no official real-money card market, and arranging one risks your account. Ignore "free Shinedust" or "free card" links and sites, which are phishing. Use a community value list the smart way — as a shared reference point for how cards compare in desirability, never as a price. It helps you tell whether two same-rarity cards are a roughly even swap, and then you and your trading partner agree on what feels fair.
